A unique joint CSR project launched way back in 2007 to promote self-employed electricians as professionals for the first time in Sri Lanka at the faculty of engineering , university of Peradeniya by introducing new avenue to the non-formal education in Sri Lanka with the collaboration of a private entity.
A leading power and telecommunication cable manufacture in Sri Lanka, m/s Kelani Cables PLC. Has signed the historic agreement with the university of peradeniya on 19 th of jan.2007 at the faculty of engineering. Professor S.B.S.abeykoon then dean faculty of engineering and Hemantha Perera, then md, Kelani Cables PLC. Have signed the MOU to launch Kelani Saviya a unique skill development program.
Initially the historic MOU was signed for the period of five years , however due to heavy demand, Mr. Mahinda Saranapala Director /CEO and( then) vice chancellor , professor S.B.S. Abeykoon agreed to give another period of five years in 2012 to continue Kelani Saviya till 2017.
Accordingly Kelani Saviya joint CSR already completed its 10th year in operation while giving new life to over 400 youth in Sri Lanka to become professional electricians in the country.
In 2014 Kelani Cables PLC together with the University of Jaffna entered in to an agreement to launch similar program for youth in the north to make them as professional electricians. This is an extension of the unique CSR, Kelani Saviya by the name of Kelani Shakthi.
To bridging the gap by showing good will from the people of south, Kelani Shakthi now continuing it’s operation successfully at the faculty of engineering, university of Jaffna. Mr, Mahinda Saranapala Director /CEO and senior professor (miss) Vasanthy Arsaratnam, vice chancellor have signed the MOU in 2014 for this worthy cause.
To mark the 10 th anniversary of the Kelani Saviya and also the passing out ceremony of the 9th batch of students will take place on the 02nd of Aug. 2017 at the grand ball room , hotel Galadhari, @ 10.00am, under the patronage of desha bandu hon. Karu Jayasuriya, hon speaker of the democratic socialist republic of Sri Lanka..vice chancellor prof. Upul.b. Dissanayake, deputy vice chancellor, prof. Luxman wijeweera, prof: Manjula Fernando head electrical and electronic engineering, faculty of engineering, Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, founder and course designer of the Kelani Saviya, Dr. Sarath Sisira kumara. Course Director Kelani Saviya, Director /CEO Mahinda Saranapala general manager marketing, Anil Munasinghe manager brand development Channa jayasinghe and coordinator of the Kelani Saviya and Kelani Shakthi Jayantha Wijesinghe together with distinguish participants of the University of Peradeniya and the management of m/s Kelani Cables.
